Hello Madrid 🇪🇸

My time in Madrid was a quiet one, well almost. Upon checking in to my hotel I took a dumb step away from my bag and in one minute it was gone. Stolen! I stood in silence dumbfounded by the fact that I just got robbed in a hotel lobby whilst checking in. I am normally a cautious traveler but the one time I took one step away, I lost so much. Luckily for me I was on the eve of loss and losing material things, meant so little to me. I made the calls and blocked the cards. I carried no cash in Europe, and while it caused some delay to my further travel plans - I decided to give the city a chance.

I loved how easy it was to navigate in Madrid, I loved its quiet vibrancy, Its architectural composition, the mix of modern and timeless took my breath away.

My honorable mentions with the time I had there.

My first attraction visited was, the historical Plaza Mayor. Located in the heart of Madrid, this was  the centre of executions during the Spanish Inquisition. Now the centre of celebrations, it serves  as a  a reminder of how powerful ‘Time’ is. I browsed the shops that decorates the plaza and bask in the delight that I made it to Madrid.

By far one of my best historical site experience  still to this day, was when I visited The Royal Palace of Madrid. It was incredibly beautiful, a master piece of architectural brilliance, I was just in awe. I loved the way visitors were guided and given information throughout the whole experience. I thought the policy to limit video and photos in most of the interiors, made the experience so special, so uniquely private to each visitor. Above all it was such a learning experience for me.

El Retro Park was a lot to take in at once. The crowd adds to the music of everything that envelopes the park. There is so much to see in this park, that I’d recommend it being your only site visit for the day. It can be overwhelming, but there’s enough quiet spaces to sit and be one with the beautiful nature that is at El Retro Park.

Known as a 19th century conservatory, I was so excited to visit Palacio de Cristal, also found in El Retro Park. However, when I visited it was in need of dire renovations. The online and real life experience was vastly different. Its location was dreamy and fairytale like. I can only imagine what beauty it is when in its best shape.
