I Just Don’t Know What It Looks Like Yet
There’s a certain restlessness that arrives before you know where you’re going. Not quite a plan. Not quite a longing. Just the quiet feeling that somewhere beyond the familiar, something is waiting.
I think I’m ready for another adventure. The strange part is, I don’t know what it looks like yet. Usually, when the travel bug finds me, I can almost see the trip before it happens. I can imagine the streets I’ll walk, the little cafés I’ll find, the places I’ll sit for too long with a coffee, watching people pass by. I can imagine the hotel room, the unfamiliar view outside the window, and that first morning when I wake up somewhere new.
I can see myself there before I ever arrive. This time, I can only feel the need to go. And somehow, that has left me a little stuck. I find myself looking at flights, saving places, scrolling through photographs of cities I’ve never visited, imagining what it might feel like to wake up there. Then I close the page without making a decision. Maybe I’m not supposed to know yet. Maybe this isn’t really about choosing a destination. Maybe it’s about recognizing the feeling that comes before one.
Sometimes the adventure begins long before you know where you’re going.
And maybe that’s why I haven’t been able to write the next adventure yet. Because it hasn’t happened. I’m still imagining it. For now, I’m allowing myself not to know. I don’t need to have the destination figured out. I don’t need the itinerary. I don’t even need to know exactly what I’m looking for. I only need to acknowledge that little feeling that keeps returning. There is still somewhere else for me to go. Maybe it will be Paris again. Maybe Amsterdam. Maybe Portugal, this time slowly enough to really see it.
Or maybe somewhere I haven’t even considered. I don’t know. And strangely, I’m beginning to like that. There is something wonderfully freeing about standing at the beginning of something without knowing how the story ends. So for now, I’m leaving the door open. The suitcase doesn’t have to be packed yet. The ticket doesn’t have to be booked. The destination doesn’t have to have a name. I think it’s enough to simply say: I’m ready. And see where that takes me.
